Silver Snout Award

Once a quarter, 500 BC will award the soon-to-be extremely prestigious SILVER SNOUT to people, communities, schools, businesses, etc. who are making the world a better place for future generations.

Soon, we will offer you the opportunity to submit an application. And if you win, you will be admired and appreciated by boars (and maybe bores as well) worldwide. Stay tuned.

For inspiring and guiding the Plant For the Planet: Billion Tree Campaign, sponsored by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), our inaugural SILVER SNOUT has been unanimously awarded to:

  • Professor Wangari Maathai
  • His Serene Highness Albert II Sovereign Prince of Monaco
  • Achim Steiner, UNEP Executive Director

$1 from every 500 BC product sold worldwide will be donated in support of the Plant for the Planet campaign (divided among American Forests, The Nature Conservancy, and the World Wildlife Fund).

Visitors to Florence have rubbed this famous Florentine Boar's nose for good luck over the centuries. The original boar, or Il Porcellino, ‘Little Pig’ as he is affectionately known, was carved from marble during the BC period, by a Greek sculptor. This sculpture was either lost or destroyed. A bronze casting was made in 1612 based on the Greek original. Anybody who rubs the boar's snout is supposed to return to Florence. The Florentine Boar remains one of Europe's significant works, with at least 13 copies that can be found around the world.
